Crickets, Antique, Pajamas, y House Husband

So this is Shanghai. Walked down Xi Zhang Nan Rd., I saw hundreds of people swarming in the streets stands listening to the tin cans and trying to find who is the next champion. Reminded me of the scene from ‘the Last Emperor’ by Bertolucci, I thought cricket fight was something that was long forgotten. I was wrong. It is still popular in the Old Shanghai. Right across the street, was an antique market, where you can spot almost everything, from the ceramics to terracotta warriors statues to posters of propaganda back in the 60’s and the Mao’s ‘Little Red Book'. And seriously, all the guys are wearing pajamas. No matter what they’re doing, fighting the crickets, running the errands, buying groceries, the Shanghai men all have the same outfit-a tank top with a pair of PJ shorts, matched with dress socks and dress shoes-what a fashion. Wait, did I say buying groceries? Yeah! It was men who buy groceries, cook, and even take care of babies in Shanghai. Women are only responsible for giving birth. ‘It’s women’s paradise,’ said the china man (from Si Chuan) sitting next to me on the plane ‘ I hate Shanghai. It just wrong that men have to do all these.’ Lol. Perhaps I did choose the right city to be.
